SBE Chapter 15/NYC LECC
EAS Information

NYC EAS SYSTEM ERROR STATUS INFORMATION

WOR Successfully originated the NYC Monthly EAS test at 1318 hours: message effective until 1511 hours.

***** There apparently has been a misunderstanding with WNYC-FM's monitoring assignments, and they did NOT receive the test from WOR - and therefore, can't retransmit it, causing a break in the chain.  We have asked WABC to originate a Monthly.  Please be patient. *****

WOR is waiting for confirmation that WNYC-FM is now monitoring WOR - and WOR will resend the Monthly (with correct time changes in place) when that occurs.  Please stand by.

WOR resent the Monthly test at 1520.  It is valid until 1712.  WNYC-FM should forward it by 1620PM.

A new NYC LECC has been formed and is working on changes to the NYC EAS layout. We are presently working on:

  • Finalization of the 2010 EAS Test Schedule
  • Modifications to the NYC EAS Plan
  • A change in LP-1 stations - dropping one AM and replacing it with another, and adding two FM stations as designated LP-1 stations.
  • Working with the City to develop a testing schedule between them and the LP-1 stations so there are no surprises on Monthly Test day.
  • Putting together a reporting form here on this page so that, if you do not receive a Monthly test as scheduled, you can report this fact to the LECC and we can take steps to find out what happened.
  • If a problem occurs with a Monthly test with an LP-1 station, that information will be posted here on this page so you will know and have the information for your EAS log.
We are looking to have - and keep - and active LECC in the City of New York. This will allow us to address any problems that may come up both operationally and formatically. Please use the repoting form on this page, and, if you did not receive a Monthly, please check the status box near the top of this page first to see if your LP-1 reported a problem sending the test.

YOUR LECC is presently made up of: Tom Ray (WOR Radio/Chairman, SBE 15), Alex Roman (WABC), Mark Olkowski (CBS Radio), Chris Tobin (CBS Radio), Kurt Hanson (WABC-TV), Jeff Baker (WNBC-TV), Bud Williamson (NYS Broadcasters Assn.) and Dick Novik (NYS Broadcasters Assn.). We will be bringing the City into the group after we address some of our broadcast-specific items. We will also be reaching out to the Cable industry so they have representation.

If you have any EAS questions or problems, we are here for YOU. Please feel free to contact us.
