USE OF TV CHANNELS FOR WIRELESS MICROPHONES IN NEW YORK

Per Section 74.802 of the Commission's Rules low power auxiliary stations may use UHF TV channels, but are limited to locations removed from existing co-channel TV broadcast stations by not less than the distances stated in Section 74.802(b).

The table below includes a listing of all TV and proposed DT stations in the New York area. The distances have been calculated from a central location in New York City, the CBS Broadcast Center at 57 Street and 10 Ave.

  1. Per Section 74.802(b) required separation distances are:
    54-72 MHz 65 miles
    76-88 MHz 65 miles
    174-216 MHz 60 miles
    480-608 MHz 70 miles
    614-806 MHz 70 miles
  2. Channels with operating DTV stations are shown above in color
  3. On channels 14, 15 and 16, low power auxiliary is secondary to land mobile. Per 74.861(g) ok to operate as long as you do not interfere with other class of stations authorized in Part 2. In Section 74.803(b), it says low power auxiliary is secondary to TV broadcast and land mobile. So ... if you interfere with land mobile you must stop operation.
  4. WPIX-DT will temporarily operate on TV channel 12 under the terms of a STA.
