Hi Ken –
Haven’t experienced it myself, but your description makes perfect sense (unfortunately) with auto tuning and fringe areas. Lol Ridiculous.

Subject: [sbe15ny] HD Radio Questions/Observations
I'm having a helluva time posting this message. I will try again without the attachment. While short, it is a rather large file. If someone wants to see it, please let me know and I can send it to you via a different method. Sorry for the inconvenience. --------- Another observation from an occasional/accidental HD Radio fan. After spending some time in the demo cars outside the NAB Convention, I was cruising the dial back home on my factory radio. I discovered something strange... First I thought that the digital HD-1 signal on a station was different from the analog FM (is that even possible with current equipment?) but then I discovered it was even more interesting. At my home, roughly 40 miles due west of New York City, I tuned to WBLS on 107.5 MHz. When the HD signal kicked in, the audio program changed to a different song. Strange? Upon further review, as they say in the NFL, I found that my radio had locked on to WBYN-FM in Boyertown, PA, about 54 miles to the southwest. Apparently they do not broadcast HD, because when the HD signal kicked in, it was from WBLS, about 45 miles to the east. It seems that the analog signal from WBNY was stronger than WBLS, so that is what my radio "captured" (pun intended.) But, the digital carriers from WBLS were still strong enough to kick in, effectively switching to a different station. I have a video clip of my radio display, showing the RBDS data from WBNY giving way to the digital data from WBLS. If you would like to see it, please contact me and I'll send it to you. Has anyone observed this situation in any other market(s)? Regards, Ken Hunold |
