Celebrate 100 YEARS OF 3D Cinema with us, at this FREE event!

June 10th marks the 100th Anniversary of the first documented public showing of a 3D Film in New York City’s Times Square at the Astor Theatre which was located at 45th and Broadway. The Astor was demolished in the 1980’s and The Marriott Marquis Hotel now stands in its place. The New York Stereoscopic Association event at the Marriott Marquis (in the Astor Ballroom) will commemorate this important centennial.  We’re hosting a number of incredible 3D films and presentations including:
 
Robert Furmanek, the founder of the 3D Film Archives, will screen rare historic 3D film footage.  Though several of these films will be shown at the Museum of Modern Art during their 3D Summer event, some footage will only be seen at this event!
 
We'll be showing 3D clips from Pat Metheny and Joe Satriani courtesy of  Pierre & Francois Lamoureux and  Cinemusica. Pierre will be in attendance.
 
'Aurora Borealis', award winning 3D Spectacular of the Northern Lights filmed by Ikuo Nakamura who will be in attendance.
 
And for the first time in NY, 'One Night in Hell' by Brian May (lead guitarist of Queen, Astrophysicist and stereo aficionado) courtesy of Brian May and Unanico Group.
Denny Daniel from  The Museum of Interesting Things will be demonstrating stereoscopic items from then and now.
 
Our members will share everything from 3D cameras, Stereo Views of old New York and video clips on our 4K 3D Display and our Free-D Monitor.
 
The New York Stereoscopic Association (NYSA - www.3dnsa.org) is the New York Representative of the National Stereoscopic Association (the other NSA!). Our monthly meetings at the Penumbra Foundation have brought together film-makers, inventors as well as 3D enthusiasts from all walks of life. We feel obligated to celebrate this important milestone in cinema from the city that started the motion picture industry.
 
There is No Charge for the event, however donations to offset expenses and support the NYSA will be gladly accepted. We have some excellent perks for contributors at Indiegogo (www.3dnsa.com).
