For those who don't usually use mass transit, you can get to the BBQ via subway ACEFMNQR123456 to 14th st and the bus M14D to ave D and 10th st. Watch out for the bus number! You do NOT want M14A which makes the same stops along 14th st. You can also transfer to the L train and get off at 1st ave and transfer to the M14D. 

 

Also, you can can take the M 1 2 3 5 7 11 12 101 102 103 or 15 busses to 14th st and then  the M14D.

 

Finally, if you are near it, the M8 runs almost directly.  Into the park.
