CNN Broadcast IT Support Engineer – CNN (NY Bureau)
Qualifications: Typically four or more years experience in television, working in I.T. client service or broadcast maintenance capacity, with a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair broadcast and computer equipment at the board and component level
Demonstrated experience with studio television production methods
Demonstrated familiarity with basic server, networking topology and operating systems
Duties: This professional provides maintenance, installation board and/or component-level repair of broadcast and information technology equipment in all technical areas of a of a 24x7x365 news and/or entertainment production environment. Also includes direct support of on-air/critical systems as requested by the client. Performs hardware/equipment/peripherals repair and maintenance for desktop PCs, telecommunications equipment, newsroom and automation systems, data and LAN infrastructure, and TV broadcasting systems (including control rooms, studios, T.O.C., cameras and feeds/edit systems). Shift work on a rotating schedule may be necessary to meet the needs of our customers.
Perform repair of audio & video broadcast equipment at the board level (A/V routers, digital switchers, intercom matrix, graphic equipment, digital distribution & conversion, etc.) and component level (VTRs, cameras, audio consoles & processing, RF & fiber transmission, 2-way radios, microphones, monitors, CATV system, etc.)broadcast equipment (cameras, VTRs, audio mixers, lighting gear, monitors, 2-way radios, etc.) 30-60%
Participate on technology design/redesign, installation, and integration projects with complex, leading-edge technology in an increasingly digital environment. This includes broadcast equipment, servers, networks (e.g., routers, switchers), and other equipment. 10-20%
Document quality standards, system anomalies, operational procedures, reference materials, and project work. Ensure sufficient inventory of parts and technology supplies, working with administration and finance/accounting personnel to order and track inventory. 5-15%
Perform on-site user support for critical/on-air newsroom equipment via direct contact with the client; back-up or assist BIT Production Support Specialists with non-critical news systems and desktop PCs, including installation, problem correction, removal/replacement, or other tasks as necessary to ensure continuation of customer work productivity and/or on-air transmission. 15-20%
Perform board-level repair of computing equipment (motherboards, interface cards, hard drives, etc.) 5-10%
Monitor and adjust broadcast systems to meet accepted broadcast standards using diagnostic tools such as SDI scopes, audio/data analyzers, and other equipment. 5-10%
Shadow/rotate to assist BIT Field Engineers in the operation of a satellite/microwave/RF truck and/or portable satellite equipment to transmit multi-path satellite transmissions (tape, audio/video) from remote locations. This includes equipment transport, set-up, operation, and breakdown and may also include truck maintenance. 5-10%
