SECC Members:

As you know, the NJ State Police issued a monthly EAS test at 11:10 this morning.  The NJSP ran the test after the initial decision to postpone the 10:50 test was made in consultation with SECC chair Rich Archut.   Details to follow.

I just spoke with NJSP. They are postponing todays RMT until March 31. This will give us, the FCC, and others time to evaluate the situation so that a proper course of action can be taken during this time of national emergency. As those in the emergency alert business know, it is our duty and responsibility to keep the public calm but informed.

We will keep you in the loop as more information becomes available.

Thanks for your help, stay healthy and safe.

Rich Archut

NJSECC Chair

George

You make a good point. I  will call Rich tomorrow morning and ask him to convey your thoughts to the NJSP. Look for a reply on this thread prior to the RWT.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Regularly Scheduled Monthly NJ EAS Test - During COVID 19 Emergency

It has come to my realization that the regularly scheduled New Jersey Monthly EAS Test is normally scheduled for tomorrow 3/17/2020 about 12 hours from now at the usual 3rd Tuesday of the month at approx. 1050 t0 1100AM.

It is not my decision but as a member of the NJ State EAS Planning Group we should determine from higher authorities if it is appropriate to run the scheduled monthly test during times that an actual emergency is declared. We have not been in this position recently however may have had a similar situation years ago during the Sandy Superstorm event.

My concern is heightened public awareness and anxiety etc. If the test is sent by the NJ State EOC we will relay it as normally scheduled and required. If someone from FCC, DHS, FEMA or similar agency can guide us otherwise they may decide to postpone the monthly statewide test for a period of time.

Likewise they may decide the test should still occur as scheduled since no one knows how many weeks this Emergency Declaration will last.
