Hi, everyone- Question: Is the National Weather Service now issuing RMTs for NYC? We fielded one today from them. Does this now count as our RMT if we forwarded it? I had very angry air talent, because this test seemed to come out of left field, was not expected, and did not match the published RMT schedule that I provided them. I realize that these test should really be random to be effective, but Perfect Paul was not appreciated in the middle of their show! Just curious if anyone ...Continue Reading

I can think of many things that can be done outside of the FCC, but it will require a dedicated investigator. The FCC can only confiscate equipment. But one must ask if the operators are filing their taxes properly, or running a business in an area that is zoned for residential use only. If there were any tests to ensure the safety of residents who live close to the high power transmitters they are using? If the advertisers realize that the stations are operating illegally?   ...Continue Reading

All- I also used the form twice on the website to report several Spanish language pirates on various frequencies here in the city. The first response that came back, was that no rules were being violated. Really? As a Spanish language broadcaster, these particular pirates are cutting into our business. They are soliciting the very same clients we have on the air. Some of the clubs we deal with are actually advertising with them. It’s really getting out of hand. If the FCC can’t he ...Continue Reading

Philip...I receive complaints all the time from Brooklyn about illegal stations operating and interfering with 90.7FM.There are a bunch more I receive while driving through the Bronx on the Bronx River Parkway, all throughout the dial. It's interesting you report 94.1FM. Driving north on the Bronx River Parkway from the Bronx Zoo all the way to Yonkers, WNYC 93.9 gets trounced by a pirate on 94.1FM that I thought I tracked down to Mount Vernon. I used the form on the FCC website that was shared here to re ...Continue Reading

Several weeks ago I noticed a "Jamminz Radio" on from the same area on 107.1 basically operating 24 hours a day with Jamaican oriented programming. They are doing commercials, local appearances, promotions, and have a website where they offer annual commercial sales packages. http://www.jamminzradio.com/ This has also been reported and is from the same area geographically. Philip-The FAA is also concerned with these and other stations that are unlicensed and produce products nearby; they have beacons for JFK throughout Brooklyn, for example, which could be taking hits.It may be difficult to shut down these stations, but it is the job of the FCC…Queens and Brooklyn have their own pirates…Louis LibinOn Apr 16, 2013, at 12:40 PM, Philip J Altenburg wrote: I have noticed two stations I regularly listen to being pushed off while driving this past week. The first is WNYC-FM at 93.9 being pushe ...Continue Reading

I have noticed two stations I regularly listen to being pushed off while driving this past week. The first is WNYC-FM at 93.9 being pushed off by a Caribbean station centered on the Orange / East Orange NJ border transmitting on 94.1. On the drive from Newark to West Orange, the signal causes static on my radio which is tolerable, but for about a 1 mile stretch of I-280, WNYC can not be understood at all due to the interference. At the worst point, for about 1/4 mile stretch the Caribbean station dominates, ...Continue Reading
