The rebate is based on how many members a chapter has. Since SBE 15 is the largest chapter in the country we get a sizable check every year. This year it was for $2073.40. Our chapter is lucky to be very finically stable. Most of ...Continue Reading

Happy summer everyone… As most of you know SBE National sends a rebate check to active chapters every year. The rebate is based on how many members a chapter has. Since SBE 15 is the largest chapter in the country we get a sizable check every year. This year it was for $2073.40. Our chapter is lucky to be very finically stable. Most of our meeting are paid for by vendors and we also have a revenue stream from our website.  Currently SBE 15 has over $6000 in our bank account. With that said, what many of ...Continue Reading

Re: Fwd: 1962 Study on protecting selected AM tx sites from fallout

Hi Group: I'll throw in some comments too. Correct that only WINS and WABC are at the same sites mentioned in the report. Somewhere in the mid to late 90's WINS converted from a DA-1 with the 4 short in line towers to a DA-2 with 4 taller towers in a parallelogram (I did some work on that project). The WABC short tower was top loaded with the guy wires, and would take 50 KW on 770 on a dry day, but the top loading insulators arced over if it was damp, so we limited aux tower operation to 35 KW (I worked at ABC fro ...Continue Reading

All,   I really don't know the history of the WINS site, but I guess I was confused by the 1962 report saying that it was located near Weehauken, NJ.  But certainly Weehauken is less than 6 miles from the Empire State Building, so I guess I should have taken the reported location with a grain of salt...   Per Dan's request, allow me to elaborate about the Bada Bing reference.  The locals near the WABC tower had apparently started using the base insulator for target practice.  To avoid fur ...Continue Reading

Ken and all,   I have no idea of the time frame of it's installation, but from our days in The ABC Field Shop I recall a concrete-block room inside the transmitter building in which there was a small emergency studio complete with a small console and turntables. I seem to recall Larry Mussman mentioning that it was there in that emergency studio where Dan Ingram shifted the on-air operation to during the '65 blackout. Most of you have probably heard this, but in case you haven't, there's ...Continue Reading
