Yes. WINS is on the same property and transmitter building with new towers and pattern. 4 in a box now vs 4 in-line. My understanding is the WINS site has been there since the 1940's....with a 4 tower inline rather than the 4 tower parallelogram. On Thu, Jun 28, 2012 at 10:20 AM, Scott Fybush <scott@PROTECTED> wrote: __ On 6/28/2012 10:05 AM, Ken Hunold wrote: > I think that WABC is the only station still occupying the same site as > when this report was written. Tom,   Very intersting reading!  I'm sure others have more complete (and perhaps more accurate) info, but let me put in my two cents.  Has anyone contacted Larry Mussman recently?   I think that WABC is the only station still occupying the same site as when this report was written.  I recall that roof of the transmitter building was was reinforced later with a significant amount of concrete, but I have no idea when that was done.  More recently, the base of the tower also had a wall built ...Continue Reading

I remember seeing the old WNEW towers in 1967 on a trip back from Florida. The WOR and WNEW sites only had a few years left before they would be moved.   The WMGM site must have had its towers in the pre-NJTP configuration with the additional 10kw tower. The WNEW site, according to the report, had a 3rd smaller stick for 10kw operation, I don't ever recall seeing it in any pictures of the old site.   And the building WAS well built as the report indicates... some 44 years after it was abandoned it's still standing. http://hawkins.pair.com/wnew/wnew2x.gifMike EricksonOn Wed ...Continue Reading

A friend just forwarded me this link - it's quite interesting - and what's really interesting is that most NYC AM stations at that time did not have the generator capacity to run 50KW.Tom Ray http://www.dtic.mil/cgi-bin/GetTRDoc?Location=U2&doc=GetTRDoc.pdf&AD=AD0806961 -- Thomas R.
