Thank you to everyone who came out to the meeting with BE! We had a GREAT turnout, which really impressed Criss Onan from BE. Re: Another Telco Story...

March 9th 2012 MST

Not nearly as romantic as Andy’s story, but here is a positive one.   Many many moons ago (even a few more moons before I was chief at WDHA), I was chief at WFME (owned by Family Radio, you know, Mr. Camping, the guy that said the world was going to end last May). The station was located in West Orange, New Jersey, so we had a local 201 area code number, but since we had many listeners in New York, we also had a foreign exchange number in the 212 area code so our New York listeners could call the station and not ...Continue Reading

Re: Another Telco Story...

What, no positive telco stories?   OK, I will tell one. A very junior broadcast engineer working in the Buffalo market was quite enthralled with a young lady from NYC.  Unfortunately, that young lady had gone home for summer break.   Engineer figured he would overnight airplane tickets to the young lady, so she could come visit one weekend.   However, said engineer didn't really think things through before he sent the envelope.  You see, he was also moving at the same time, and ...Continue Reading

RE: NY NWS station off air??

March 8th 2012 MST

Sometimes I don't think a lot of the Verizon people understand the concept of stereo. At a previous station, whenever we had a stereo pair installed, before accepting the circuit as working, I would always ask the installer to bridge his tone generator across both channels and do a frequency sweep, so that I could look at the phase of the stereo pair.  The Verizon tech would invariably tell me that they don't like to bridge the tone generator across two circuts, so I should check the phase once circuit at a ...Continue Reading

Re: Certification

March 8th 2012 MST

Jeff, I want to get certified, but I have a few questions. 1) What certs would help me obtain a radio engineering job? I work as a pd and jock part time, but want to move to engineering since that was what I enjoyed doing when I was engineer/IT at my college station. 2) When are the next round of exams? Thank you for your time. Tom Lawler On Mar 7, 2012 9:30 AM, "Jeff Smith" <jeffsmith@PROTECTED> wrote: 2 things….______ __Our chapter …well LACKS when it comes to certified members. Many moons ago when I was Chief at WDHA, the manager decided he wanted “music on hold”, so that people could listen to the station while waiting. So, I order ...Continue Reading
